The Bay Regatta - Phang Nga, Phuket

Every February more than 250 competitors and 40 sailing yachts converge for the ultimate competition in Phang Nga, Phuket. Everything kicks off January 31st and ends on February 4, 2018. This marks their 21st year in holding the competition. Known as the Bay Regatta competition, it differs somewhat from the King's Cup Regatta held in Phuket and famous. This sends the yachts from Phuket and through the most special scenery like Phang Nga Bay, and you have many new anchorage options every evening.

You see sailors from all walks of life here because most have heard about Phuket boasting the most stunning maritime scenery in the world, and for the sailors who come back each year, you have the chance to retire at the end of the day to the most interesting anchorages and race. Each have been carefully chosen so that participants might choose sleeping on the boat or go ashore to one of the many local resorts. Oftentimes the Bay Regatta has been termed as "Asia's fun regatta," and an iconic event remains fairly casual, but you have one of the most fun-filled atmospheres around. Plenty of faces and families have grown familiar with the yacht scene in Phuket, and they prefer the regattas because they feel more relaxed when racing over the course of an adventure for four days.

The Distinct Classes of Yachts

Yachts have a relaxed atmosphere, but the competition still divides them into six different classes. For example, you have the class for racing, which sees a large number of entries coming from Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Yachts for cruising have also been split up into two separate divisions, and you see an ever-expanding variety of choices to join the challenge. For example, you have the likes of Jim Ellis and Kevin Gillow who compete to win the title.

In addition, the class for the multihull, which gets divided into two separate cruising division, and you have the two current King's Cup champions John Newnham and Henry Kaye. In 2018, the competition began, and the competition will start January 31, 2018.

The Races

On the first day of the race, the sailors will head over to Ao Po, but they will race over to the northern reaches in Phang Nga Bay. You will go past the ramparts famous like Ko Phanak. In addition, you will be close to the James Bond Island. On the second day, you will have a race where the fleet sails through the dozens of lonely islands called Ko Pak Bia, and this happens before you start to direct your sails East. During this time, you will get the opportunity to check out Karbi's Leam Nang Peninsular. In this year's competition, the regatta races within Krabi over two nights.

On the third day, you will sail past a variety of different islands. For example, your course will take you through, "Ko Dam Group." By the time you finish, you will go to Ao Nang Beach to participate in a party that gives away prizes. It will happen at the "ShellSea Krabi," which is a five-star, luxury boutique resort. Finally, you have the fourth day. You will begin in Ao Nang to race over the islands. It all winds down to one of the most spectacular sprints you will find in sailboat racing. On the final night, you will enjoy what's known as the closing party. The sponsors hold this event at one of the best local seafood spots in Phuket, Kan Eang II. You will enjoy a buffet, live music and the presentation of all the prizes.

Who Supports the Regatta?

The Regattas Asia organizes the Regatta. Meanwhile, the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand takes part in it, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand helps with it. This all comes together as a major event in Phuket for those who like sailing. You have everything you love, and at the end of a racing day, you can relax at one of the many resorts.
